Pearce Property Services is a family-run building company based in Brighton & Hove. The Pearce name has been on Sussex building sites for over 170 years — and we still do the work ourselves.
Our trade goes back to David James Pearce, a Brighton plasterer born in 1849 and working off Guildford Street in the heart of the town. The craft passed down through his son William James Pearce (born 1884) and grandson George David Pearce (born 1911), and on to George's son Edward Pearce (born 1940), who broadened the family trade into fine woodworking. A skilled joiner and chair maker, Edward crafted high-end furniture for London hotels, working timber to a standard that demanded real precision and care. Edward's son Daren Pearce (born 1971) carried the trade on, starting out in joinery before moving into plastering and the wider construction trades, and today owns and runs Pearce Property Services. The family's roots in Sussex reach back further still — to Pearce labourers and carters around Slaugham and Brighton in the early 1800s. Across five generations, the Pearces have plastered, built, renovated and worked timber throughout Brighton, Hove and Lewes.
That heritage still shapes how we work today. There's no office, no sales team, no call centre. When you ring us, you speak to the people who'll actually be on your site. We do smaller refurbishment jobs around Brighton — kitchens, bathrooms, plastering — through to full property renovations, extensions and conversions.
We're not trying to be the biggest builder in Sussex. We take on a manageable number of projects at a time so every job gets proper attention from start to finish. That means we're hands-on throughout — from the initial site survey right through to final snagging and handover.
Every project starts with a free site visit where we assess the work properly — not a quick look and a rough number. You get a fully itemised, fixed-price quote in writing before anything starts, so you know exactly what you're paying for. No hidden extras, no surprises halfway through.
We're FMB approved, with £5M public liability insurance covering your property, your neighbours and everyone on site. At handover you receive all electrical and gas safety certificates, Building Control sign-off documentation and your FMB-backed workmanship warranty — everything in writing, nothing verbal.

Our Journey
A Family Trade Since 1849
- 1849 David James Pearce is born in Brighton, working as a plasterer off Guildford Street — the start of the family's plastering trade.
- 1884 William James Pearce is born in Brighton and follows his father into plastering, carrying the craft into a second generation.
- 1911 George David Pearce is born in Brighton — a third-generation Pearce plasterer, later settling in Lewes.
- 1940 Edward Pearce is born in Lewes and takes the family trade into woodworking — a skilled joiner and chair maker who crafted high-end furniture for London hotels.
- 1971 Daren Pearce is born and starts out in joinery before moving into plastering and the wider construction trades. Daren is the owner of Pearce Property Services.
- Today The trade continues as Pearce Property Services — still family-run, still hands-on, renovating, extending and plastering homes across Brighton, Hove, Lewes and Sussex, just as the Pearces have for over 170 years.
